Preview: Roar vs Reds

  • Preview: Roar vs Reds

Adelaide United head into their clash with league-leaders the Brisbane Roar at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday full of confidence after their comprehensive 5-1 drubbing of the Wellington Phoenix last week.

The side that tore the New Zealanders apart can expect a tougher time away against the competitionís benchmark but, if they display the free-flowing game that was evident last week, they will no doubt trouble the home side.

Do you think Adelaide can beat Brisbane? Whatís your score-line prediction?

The Reds can take back third spot on the ladder should they come away with the win and that, as well as continuing the momentum from their recent run of form, should be incentive enough for Josep Gombau to have his players up and about.

One thing we know is that Adelaide has the ability to score multiple goals; recent results and the declaration Gombau has made in the media that he will not instruct his team to pull back from their attacking, high-passing game would suggest this will not change anytime soon.

The likes of Marcelo Carrusco, Fabio Ferreira and the effervescent Jeronimo Neumann will looking to dominate with their attacking play, while Osama Malik and Nigel Boogard will look to stifle any Brisbane counter-attacks.

Brisbane have firepower of their own, of course, and the Reds will need to keep the likes of influential pair Thomas Broich and Besart Berisha quiet to take the three points.

Who do you think will have the most influence over the final result?

One thing is for certain, Adelaide will be going for those three points.

Momentum is precious in any professional sport and the team will want to keep that going with a win, especially so close to a finals campaign in which they look likely to play a big part.

Indeed, this match could be a preview of a playoff clash, perhaps even the decider.

No one can deny that the Reds are one of, if not the, form side of the competition at the moment and a meeting with the Roar deep into the playoffs is s distinct possibility.

That possibility makes this game even more important.

The confidence and mental edge to be gained from a win on Sunday is worth the risk of losing should the two teams meet again post-season.

This one is shaping as the game of the round and has the potential to shape Adelaideís entire season.

Bring on the Roar!
