Roar Edge Reds 2-1

  • Roar Edge Reds 2-1

Close, but not quite.

If we learned anything from Sundayís 2-1 loss to Brisbane at Suncorp Stadium itís that the Reds have a little way to go before they can match the table-topping Roar.

Brisbane turned in a clinical performance against Adelaide, with Besart Berisha scoring two goals (he would have had three if not for a brilliant save from Eugene Galekovic) for the side that made the most of their chances.

The Albanian scored in the 22nd minute after some very good lead-up work from Matt Mckay and Dimitri Petratos, and again in the 52nd minute when his 20m strike deflected off the left-hand post.

After a recent form slump, Brisbane fans will be happy their talisman is back in form.

Itís just a pity it had to happen against the Reds.

Jeronimo Neumann did bag a consolation goal in injury time, and what a consolation it was, smashing a beautiful strike into the top left-hand corner.

It was too late, however, and Brisbane are now ten points clear of the Western Sydney Wanderers at the top of the A-League table, while the Reds sit in fifth with five rounds to go.

Can the Reds get better? Can they turn the tables if they meet Brisbane again in the finals?

I think so, especially as it was really only Brisbaneís ability to finish that separated the sides.

Possession was even for most of the match, shots on goal about the same.

Brisbane were simply too clinical, but that can be worked on by Adelaide and they should still go into next weekís game against Western Sydney with confidence.

The Reds will need to improve to secure a finals spot but the signs are good, despite the loss.

Iím optimistic of a strong finish to the season and a serious tilt at finals glory.
