Preview: Wanderers v Reds

  • Preview: Wanderers v Reds

After faltering against the Brisbane Roar last week, Adelaide United will be looking to get back on the winnerís list against the Western Sydney Wanderers today at Pirtek Stadium.

Itís a tough ask against the second-placed Wanderers on their home pitch, who currently sit four points ahead of the Reds on the ladder, but Adelaide can take heart from the fact that the club from Western Sydney has only won one of its past five A-League games, albeit two of those matches ending in draws.

Unitedís form in that same period is three from five.

Add to that the fact that the Wanderers only arrive back in Australia 24 hours before the game after their maiden Asian Champions League win over Guizhou in China on Wednesday night and the Reds will like their chances.

With Ante Covic, Nikolai Topor-Stanley, Matthew Spiranovic, Shinji Ono, Tomi Juric and Brendon Santalab having all missed the trip to China and set to come back into Tony Popovicís side however, United will not have it all their own way.

The good news for Adelaide is that they have the attacking options (Neumann, Cyrio and Ferreira et all), and the will to use them, to de-stabilise a Wanderers defence that has been leaking goals of late.

Western Sydney are at home however, and will be buoyed by that win in China, as well as the confidence that comes from past successes in the league.

They also have the ability to exploit a Reds defence that likes to push up, therefore leaving them open to conceding goals on the counter.

This is a high stakes game, with both clubs having everything to play for in a league in which only five points separate the second and seventh-placed teams.

Should be a cracker...go Reds!
