Preview: Reds v Heart

  • Preview: Reds v Heart

Here we go.

Two rounds left and Adelaide United have the chance to finish as high as second on the A-League ladder.

The Reds are currently in fourth spot, only two points behind the Central Coast Mariners, who are second, and one behind Western Sydney Wanderers in third.

Needless to say, there is a buzz around the club and its supporters, with the talk of what might be gaining momentum.

Before that though is the game against the Melbourne Heart at Coopers Stadium on Friday night.

Itís the last chance for the Adelaide faithful to turn out at home and support their team in the regular season.

Despite the fact that the Heart are second-last and have very little to play for, there will be some nerves in and around the city of churches.

The Reds should win and win comfortably if their home form this season is anything to go by, but the current state of the league will make even the most optimistic fan cross their fingers and hope for the best.

Weíre so close!

All that aside, Adelaide have too much firepower for the beleaguered Heart, who are still missing their captain in soon-to-be-retired Harry Kewell.

I expect Heart will be saving all of their energy for his farewell match the following week against the Wanderers and would be surprised if they turn up looking super-sharp.

Adelaide also have the luxury of welcoming back important players in Jeronimo Neumann and Sergio Cirio.

The Reds looked a little lacklustre last week in defeating the Phoenix in Wellington, but expect that to be a different story at the fortress that is their home pitch.

Adelaide have been irresistible at home, dismantling some pretty highly fancied teams with quick and accurate passing.

They also have the ability to finish at home that has sometimes been lacking away, so expect to see multiple goals.

Take nothing for granted, the A-League is tight and anything can happen when so many teams at the top have so few points separating them.

What Adelaide have shown all season under Josep Gombau, however, is confidence and there is no reason why they canít keep this going on Friday night.

Will the Reds win? Who will score the first goal?
