It’s here and Adelaide United have their chance to play a huge part when they take on the Central Coast Mariners this Saturday in Gosford.
The reigning champions have not been beaten by Adelaide at home since 2009, an imposing record by any standard.
There will be some solace for the Reds in their last two outings against the Mariners, however, with resulting 4-0 and 2-0 victories, albeit at Coopers stadium, sure to provide Josep Gombau with something to lift his men.
But should they need a lift at this point of the season and with so much to play for?
I would think not and, really, Adelaide United have nothing to lose, which will suit them.
Expectations before the season began were relatively low for the Reds.
With a new coach and a host of news players, there was a large amount of the unknown attached to the club.
The no fear, attacking style of play that Gombau has brought is a breath of fresh air to the club and the A-League in general.
Quite frankly, what has become clear this season is that on their day, the Reds can beat anybody.
They will have to – finishing in sixth place as they have done means they will need to win three away games to take the ultimate prize.
No doubt the coach and his players will embrace the challenge.
The fans should too.
This is a chance to make history and take advantage of that great leveller in sport, momentum.
If United can get up over the Mariners, anything can happen.
Do you think the Reds can beat the Mariners?
